About the Program


The Industrial Product Design Program is a two-year associate degree program that aims to satisfy user needs by adding functionality and aesthetics to products manufactured through industrial means.

The goal of the Industrial Product Design Program is to train Industrial Product Designers who can visualize the visual and functional qualities of a product to be produced in any industrial branch by designing the product, decide on the material or materials to be used in the product, and visualize the color, texture, and graphical features of the product. Informed about material, color, texture, and ergonomics, students first draw their designs on paper by hand using the drawing techniques they have learned, then complete their designs using current computer programs and convert them into prototypes in the workshop.

Designers can construct any perceptual, physical, and functional relationship between the product and the user, make technological innovations, and thus guide the future. In addition to general methods and theories, the program plans to train versatile industrial product designers who use innovative and experimental methods, are sensitive to human, environmental, national, and international stakeholders' changing needs and can guide these needs, know the principles such as user-centeredness and sustainability, integrate their knowledge with current technology in professional practice, and guide design trends at national and international levels. As the Design Department, our goal is to carry out our educational activities in close cooperation with the industry, with an education philosophy based on engineering and technology, and an approach focused on research and development.

Industrial Product Design Education, in its broadest sense, covers shaping the objective world that constitutes the artificial environment of humans to benefit from it in line with their needs. However, Industrial Product Design is not just a profession focused on creating the relationship between form and function in a creative and innovative way in line with human needs and desires, but also an academic discipline that contributes to value and knowledge production with creative and innovative approaches in local and global competitive environments. As the Industrial Product Design Department, we believe that design is a way of thinking that carries the responsibility of critiquing today to construct and make the future livable. Accordingly, our department's education philosophy aims to open to discussion the roles that design practice has assumed and can assume in economic, social, and technological developments in the world and to develop design and research strategies aimed at ensuring continuity in social responsibility, environmental and social sustainability.

Our department trains creative, entrepreneurial, innovative, and nationally/internationally competitive industrial product designers who can work in the industry and related sectors, designing products produced by considering user, manufacturer, and market expectations as well as social and environmental values. In department courses where theory is supported by practice, subjects such as ergonomics, material, production methods, technical and three-dimensional drawing are carried out in interaction with qualified academic staff and professional designers. In this way, skills such as research belonging to the product design process, strategic goal setting, original concept development, and mastery of new technology and production processes are developed.

The ASO 1st Organized Industrial Zone, where our Vocational School is located and where approximately 277 factories operate, is one of the most developed industrial basins in our country. In the program, in order to develop qualified workforce and application skills, our students carry out on-the-job skills training for a total of 146 days, two days a week during their course terms that include internships, and throughout the entire summer terms, in enterprises suitable for their fields of expertise. Students who can also find the opportunity to work full-time in these enterprises will start their business lives at a certain level of experience at graduation by blending their theoretical knowledge with the practical knowledge and experience they have acquired.

While our students use state-of-the-art computer and design laboratories in applied courses and realized project studies, they are provided with materials and personal protective equipment that they can obtain free of charge. In addition, technological developments in the field of design are followed in the world, and our curriculum and application areas are updated accordingly.

The "Ergonomics and Design Laboratory" has been established within the Design Department. The laboratory contains computers where current design programs are used; 3D printers that allow us to take three-dimensional prints of realized designs; anthropometry sets for taking anthropometric measurements; goniometers; skinfold calipers; measurement tools for ergonomic measurements in scientific studies and course applications; a gimbal; a video slider to be used in shoots; and a three-dimensional scanner.
